Ultrasound tomography in bone mimicking phantoms: Simulations and experiments

This study presents bone-mimicking phantoms designed for advanced ultrasound tomography, enabling the evaluation of bone quality beyond mineral density. The phantoms facilitate detailed analysis of cortical thickness and mechanical properties, enabling the distinction between healthy and osteoporotic bone through simulations and experiments. Their realistic design enables the testing of a noninvasive, radiation-free ultrasound method that offers a promising alternative for early osteoporosis diagnosis and improved bone health assessment.
