Real-Time Acoustic Simulation Framework for tFUS: A Feasibility Study Using Navigation System

This study on real-time acoustic simulation for transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) demonstrates how advanced computational modeling combined with a realistic skull environment can significantly improve targeting accuracy and treatment safety in brain therapies. A key component of the experimental setup was the use of a high-fidelity skull-mimicking structure, including a Calvaria skull phantom from True Phantom Solutions, which provided anatomically realistic bone geometry and acoustic attenuation properties closely matching human cortical and trabecular bone. The integration of the calvaria phantom was essential for replicating realistic transcranial propagation conditions, strengthening the study’s ability to translate simulation results toward clinically focused ultrasound applications.
