Advanced Full‑Body Dynamic Phantom for Ballistocardiography Research

At True Phantom Solutions, we continue to expand the boundaries of what dynamic medical phantoms can achieve. One of our recent full‑body developments demonstrates our ability to integrate realistic mechanical systems into anatomically accurate models, supporting specialized research such as ballistocardiography, pressure mapping, and vibration analysis.
Realistic Respiratory Air‑Exchange
To simulate natural breathing, the phantom incorporated a lung pump system capable of driving real air exchange through the airway. During development, we optimized the airflow path by redesigning the mouth to remain permanently open, ensuring consistent and reliable air movement for temperature‑change observation and respiratory‑related testing.
Independent Heart and Lung Pump Systems
The phantom was equipped with independently functioning heart and lung pumps, each mechanically integrated into the torso. These systems provided realistic actuation and internal pressure behavior, forming the mechanical foundation required for downstream ballistocardiography measurements. After delivery, the client connected their own control systems, sensors, and data‑acquisition equipment to complete the research setup.
Supporting Ballistocardiography Research
The primary purpose of this project was to support ballistocardiography studies, specifically, measuring pressure changes and subtle vibrations transmitted through the feet in response to cardiac and respiratory activity. By supplying a fully assembled, upright phantom with dynamic heart and lung motion, we provided a stable and realistic platform for precise instrumentation and analysis.
